LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s basketball team has added freshman guard Karmen Gunn to its program, Golden Eagle head coach Janell Jones announced on Thursday.
Gunn, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Luella High School (GA), will join the Golden Eagles, Jones said. Gunn helped her teams reach the Georgia state playoffs in all four years of her high-school career.
“Karmen has the potential to become a big-time player. She is a great athlete who can get to the rim and has great court vision,” Jones said. “Karmen is very active and plays aggressively. She has a no-fear attitude that will allow her to make great strides quickly in adjusting to the college game. I expect a great future for Karmen here at Cal State L.A.”
She played at Jones County High School as a freshman and helped her team to the state quarterfinals. She was then a three-year starter at Luella. As a sophomore, her team reached the state quarterfinals. As a junior, the Lions advanced to the round of 16 and she earned All-Region second-teams and received the Best Defensive Player award from her team.
As a senior, she was the team’s Most Valuable Player and earned the Best Offensive Player award. She earned first-team All-Region honors, was a Henry County Player of the Year nominee and was on the Henry-Clayton Counties All-Star team. She averaged 15 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three assists per game.
