LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s basketball team has added junior guard Lorin Hammer to its program, Golden Eagle head coach Janell Jones announced on Thursday.
Hammer, a 5-foot-4-inch guard, played the past two seasons for Mercer University. She appeared in 27 games last year as a sophomore and played a total of 129 minutes. She played in a total of 35 games in her two years at Mercer. Hammer had her best performance against Oklahoma State on Dec. 19, 2009 when she poured in 12 points in 21 minutes of playing time. She hit four of her seven 3-point attempts in the game. She made her first career start for Mercer on Jan. 7, 2010 against Campbell.
“Lorin is one of the smartest players I have ever had the privilege to coach,” Jones said. “She has shown the ability to hit big shots in games. Lorin came from a strong high school program and understands what it takes to build a championship program. Her leadership skills, passion for the game and being the consummate teammate will be of great value to our program.”
Hammer played for four years at Sequoyah High School in Oklahoma, where she helped the team to three consecutive state championships in her first three years. The team finished second in the state in her senior season in 2008. She was named to a pair of Oklahoma All-State teams in 2008 and was also named to the 2007 Tulsa World 3A All-State team. She earned All-State honors in softball as well and also helped the golf team to its first state tournament appearance in 2007.
Hammer is a prestigious Gates Millennium Scholarship recipient.
