LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s basketball team has added junior forward Lacy Ramon to its program, Golden Eagle head coach Janell Jones announced on Friday.
Lacy Ramon, a 6-1 forward from Mercer University, has joined the Cal State L.A. program, Jones said. Ramon was third on the Bears last season in scoring with 8.6 points per game and she was second in rebounding with 5.3 boards per contest. She appeared in 54 games over two seasons for Mercer and started 34 times. She played in 29 games as a sophomore and started 28 times.
“Lacy is a very smart and crafty player at the forward position. She can step out and hit the three, take it off the dribble and score around the basket,” Jones said. “Her knowledge of the game on both ends of the floor and her competitive spirit make her a valuable asset to the team. Lacy does the little things to win a game, things that may not show up on a stat sheet, but are things coaches love in a player.”
Ramon had a career-high 20 points and 15 rebounds against Stetson on Jan. 21, 2010. She followed that up with another 20-point performance against Florida Gulf Coast two days later and she also had 18 points and six rebounds in a game against ETSU on Feb. 11.
As a freshman, she made her first career appearance against No. 10 Texas A&M and scored four points with two rebounds. She made her first career start and had two assists against Lipscomb on Jan. 24, 2009.
Ramon went to Mercer after four seasons of high-school basketball. She played for three years at Mustang High School in Mustang, Okla. before finishing her career at Norman High School. She helped each of her four teams into the state tournament. In her senior season, she averaged 12.1 points and 6.3 rebounds and was a McDonald’s All-American nominee. She was also the Mid-State Conference Newcomer of the Year in 2008 and the Metro Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2007.
