LOS ANGELES – Leora Juster, a two-time California Collegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Player, has been hired as a women’s basketball assistant coach at Cal State L.A., CSULA Head Coach Janell Jones announced on Thursday.
Juster was a two-time NCAA Division II Kodak All-American and a two-time West Region Most Valuable Player while at UC San Diego. She is one of only four players in conference history to win top CCAA honors in consecutive years and one of only five players to win two conference MVP awards.
“Players who understand basketball and have a great passion for the game tend to make great coaches,” Jones said. “That’s the case with Leora. Her success as a player both with the team and as an individual will be a great asset to building a winning program here at Cal State L.A.”
Juster led the conference in scoring in the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons and led the Tritons to the national semi-finals as a senior in 2007. She finished her four-year UC San Diego career as the program’s leading scorer with 2,049 points and also had 397 assists.
She was the CCAA’s Female Athlete of the Year in 2007.
Juster earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics – secondary education at UC San Diego in 2007 and received her Master’s in Education Collaborative Educator at Mercer University in 2009.
She was a graduate assistant for Jones at Mercer in the 2007-08 season.
Juster has also been a math teacher at Howard High School in Macon, GA and most recently at Crozier Middle School in Inglewood. She was an assistant coach on Howard High School’s cross country and girls basketball teams and she was the head coach of the boys soccer team at Crozier Middle School.
