2010 Cal State L.A. Men’s Track and Field – Season Summary
 
Cal State L.A.’s men’s track and field team had some outstanding individual performances in 2010 and the Golden Eagles put together their best national finish since 1998.
 
Led by second-place national finishes in the 100 and 200 by Damein White, a second-place finish by West Region Field Athlete of the Year Josh Como in the triple jump and a third-place finish by the 4x100 relay team, Cal State L.A. finished in a tie for sixth in the nation.
 
The Golden Eagles had 33 points and had their best finish to a season since the 1998 team took fifth in the nation with 37 points. It was the second Top-10 finish in three years for the Golden Eagles, who were seventh in 2008.
 
White and Como picked up two individual All-America awards and each picked up a third by being part of the 4x100 relay team. White was second in the 200 meters for the second time in his career with a time of 20.74, which was his best mark of the season. He was also second in the 100 with a time of 10.46.
 
Como, meanwhile, who had the nation’s top mark and the No. 2 effort in Cal State L.A. history at 54-7.25 in the triple jump, had to settle for second in his specialty at nationals. He earned his second All-America honor in the long jump after finishing sixth.
 
White, Como, Leve Ross and Dominic McGiffert finished third in the nation in the 4x100 relay.
 
The Golden Eagles also picked up five California Collegiate Athletic Association championships while finishing fifth as a team. White won the 200 meters, McGiffert won the 400 meters, Como won the triple jump, Verlondon Harris won the shot put and the 4x100 relay team of Ross, White, Como and McGiffert won.
 
In addition, Como was second in the long jump and White was second in the 100 to earn All-CCAA second-team honors and McGiffert was third in the 200, Jordan Tyler was third in the pole vault and the 4x400 relay team was third to earn All-CCAA third-team honors.
