CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Cal State L.A.’s men’s and women’s track and field teams got off to an All-American start Friday on the second day of the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships.

Tuekeha Huntley set a new Cal State L.A. record in the heptathlon with 5,126 points and finished eighth in the two-day event at the Irwin Belk Track Complex. Huntley easily eclipsed her previous best of 4,952 points and broke the school record of 5,079 set by Shianne Smith last season. Later in the day, Damein White and Moriah Jubrey qualified for the men's and women's 200-meter finals. White won his heat and was third overall with a time of 21.20, while Jubrey was second in her heat and was eighth overall with a time of 24.13.

Dominic McGiffert was 18th in the 200 with a time of 22.09 and did not qualify for the finals.

Those were the only competitions other than the early-day multi-events to be completed on Friday. Poor weather has forced major changes to Saturday's schedule.

Huntley entered the championships with the 14th-best qualifying mark so her performance Thursday and Friday far exceeded expectations. She was ninth after the first day with 3,086 points and then set season’s best marks in two of the three events on Friday. She had a mark of 17-8 in the long jump, which was a season’s best and then moved into eighth with a 111-11 toss in the javelin. She then ran a season’s best 2:20.29 in the 800 meters to complete her All-America performance.

The top eight in each event earn All-America honors.

The three-day meet will conclude on Saturday.

Josh Como earned All-America honors in the long jump with a sixth-place finish and the Golden Eagles qualified for three more finals to highlight action on Thursday.
