2010 Daktronics All-America Team
MARSHALL, MINN – Cal State L.A.’s
Sam Wiley was one of 45 players named to the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America Baseball Team. Wiley, who led the Golden Eagles in nearly every offensive category, was named to the third team in voting by the NCAA Division II College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A total of 33 institutions were represented on either the first, second or third team All-America squad.
Wiley was named the third-team utility player after playing first base, catcher and right field for the Golden Eagles in 2010. He was earlier named to the first-team Daktronics All-West Region Baseball Team that made him eligible for All-America honors.
He led the Golden Eagles with a .433 batting average, nine home runs and 60 runs batted in. Wiley also led the team with a .691 slugging percentage and a .482 on-base percentage. Wiley’s 28 extra-base hits also led the team.
He was second in the California Collegiate Athletic Association in batting average, runs batted in and slugging percentage.
Bryan Fogle, a senior outfielder from Erskine, was named the Player of the Year, while junior pitcher Hayden Simpson of Southern Arkansas was the Pitcher of the Year. Fogle finished the season hitting .430 with 28 home runs and 103 RBI, while Simpson was 13-1 with a 1.81 earned run average in 99 1/3 innings pitched.
No players from the West Region were selected to the first team, but UC San Diego had five players named to the second team and Cal State Dominguez Hills and Chico State joined Cal State L.A. with one player each on the third team.
An addition 18 players earned honorable mention.
Wiley becomes the third player in the past four years to earn All-America honors for Cal State L.A.’s baseball program. Jeff Carroll earned first-team All-America honors in 2007, while Mario Ramirez earned honorable mention in 2009.
