Ramirez was the first-team catcher on the NCBWA All-Region team in 2010 after earning first-team honors last year as an outfielder. Ramirez led the Golden Eagles in runs scored with 47 and he was second on the team in batting average at .343. He also set a single-season Cal State L.A. record by getting hit by pitches 21 times. He is also the career record-holder in that department with 35.
To be eligible for the NCBWA Division II All-West Region teams, student-athletes must have been selected as either first or second-team all-conference this season. The selection panel for the NCBWA Division II all-region team consists of six baseball SIDs from within the region – the same panel that voted weekly for the NCBWA Division II regional polls during the 2010 regular season.
Wiley received second-team honors as a utility player from the NCBWA. He led the Golden Eagles in nearly every offensive category and played first base, catcher and right field in 2010.
Wiley also earned second-team honors on the ABCA/Rawlings All-West Region squad in voting by the region’s coaches. Wiley was considered an outfielder by that group.
He led the Golden Eagles with a .433 batting average, nine home runs and 60 runs batted in. Wiley also led the team with a .691 slugging percentage and a .482 on-base percentage. Wiley’s 28 extra-base hits also led the team.
Wiley wound up making all three All-Region teams. He was also a first-team selection on the Daktronics All-West Region team in voting by the region’s sports information directors. He later went on to win third-team All-America honors on the Daktronics team, becoming the third Cal State L.A. player in the past four years to earn All-America recognition.
