LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.'s men's and women's track and field teams had once last attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division II championship at the CSULA Last Chance Qualifying Meet Saturday.
Jamilah St. Cyr and the Cal State L.A. women's 4x100 relay team took full advantage at the meet, posting a pair of automatic qualifying marks in competition Saturday at Jesse Owens Track. St. Cyr posted an automatic qualifying mark of 148-11 in the javelin while winning the event. That mark far surpassed her previous season's best of 138-5 and also exceeded the automatic standard of 147-7.
The mark is the sixth-best this season in NCAA Division II.
St. Cyr also ran the first leg of the 4x100 relay team, which won its event in a season's best 45.90. That mark is an automatic qualifying time and easily eclipsed the previous season's best of 46.70. The automatic standard is 46.00 and the Golden Eagles posted the fourth-fastest time in the country on Saturday.
St. Cyr was joined on the team by
Moriah Jubrey,
Brittany Manuel and
Jennifer Shoate.
St. Cyr also won the shot put with a mark of 44-2.50, while Ashley Fletcher won the long jump with a season's best mark of 18-6. That mark was just below the provisional qualifying standard of 18-6.50.
Josh Como, who has the top mark in NCAA Division II of 54-7.25 in the triple jump, did not compete in his speciality on Saturday, but won the long jump with a mark of 23-6. Como has an automatic qualifying time in the triple jump and a provisional qualifying mark of 24-3 in the long jump.
Christopher Hicks won the high jump with a mark of 6-6.75.
