Golden Eagles Beat Coyotes For First CCAA Win Of Season

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team got some strong play in singles and doubles and posted its first win of the 2010 season.

The Golden Eagles took two of the three doubles contests and four of the six singles matches to beat Cal State San Bernardino, 6-3, Tuesday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association competition at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (1-5, 1-4 CCAA) played its first of four home matches this week.

Dora Kiss, Jillian Sangria and Adriana Espinosa won both of their matches to lead the way. Kiss won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-4, over Cal State San Bernardino’s Brittany Choate and teamed with Linda Majzlikova for a win over Choate and Kara Jenkins, 8-0, at No. 1 doubles.

Sangria and Espinosa teamed up for an 8-5 win over Isabella Fraczek and Allison Brooks at No. 2 doubles and then won their respective singles contests. Sangria rallied for a 0-6, 6-0, 6-0 win over Fraczek at No. 3 singles, while Espinosa beat Christina Torres at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-4.

Cal State San Bernardino (0-5, 0-5 CCAA) got a win at No. 3 doubles from Torres and Janay Palicte and wins at No. 2 singles from Palicte and No. 5 singles from Brooks.

Cal State L.A. also got a point at No. 4 singles from Lana Lamesic, who outlasted Jenkins, 6-2, 7-5.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Thursday with a home match against Western New Mexico beginning at 2 p.m.
