LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s
Josh Como has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Track and Field Male Athlete of the Week for the week of March 1-7, the conference announced on Monday.
Como, a junior from Riverside City College, had another sensational week for the Golden Eagles. He posted an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark of 53-00.25 in the triple jump while winning the event at the Ben Brown Invitational Saturday at Cal State Fullerton. It was the second straight week Como had recorded an automatic qualifying mark in the event and the 53-foot jump is a new personal best.
Como has the top mark in the NCAA Division II by almost four feet and his mark is No. 3 on Cal State L.A.’s all-time list.
He also ran the third leg on Cal State L.A.’s 4x100 relay team that won its event with a time of 40.70. That time is an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark and is currently the best in the nation.
Como competed in football, basketball and track and field at Rancho Verde High School before attending Riverside City College, where he competed in track and field.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday at the Cal State Northridge Invitational.
