LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s baseball team had a forgettable day Saturday in its final non-conference games of the season.

The Golden Eagles fell apart in both ends of a doubleheader and were swept by Cal State San Marcos, 10-8 and 9-4, Saturday at Reeder Field. Cal State L.A. (12-13) lost all three games in the series to the Cougars (17-7-1).

The Golden Eagles were undone by walks in the opening game, issuing a staggering 11, including eight in the fifth and sixth innings alone to help Cal State San Marcos erase an early 4-1 deficit. In the nightcap, three Cal State L.A. errors paved the way for five unearned runs as the Cougars roared back from another 4-1 deficit.

Jordan Castro was one of the few bright spots for the Golden Eagles, driving in four runs in the opener with his fourth home run of the year and a three-run triple. He also added a pair of RBI in the nightcap.

Joe Park and Sam Wiley had a pair of hits each in the opener and Park drove in two runs.

Park was 3-for-3 in the nightcap, while Matt Miraldi was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Josh Miller had three RBI in the opener for Cal State San Marcos, which collected 12 hits in the opener to go along with the 11 walks and added 15 more in the seven-inning nightcap. Ricardo Moran had three hits and three RBI in the nightcap, while Mitch Ferguson was 4-for-4. Kevin Silvett and Kyle Parks had home runs in the second game, while Matt Jenkins had one in the opener.

Rory Young gave up 10 hits and three runs in the opener and left after five innings with a 4-3 lead. The Golden Eagles got all four runs in the third inning. Castro homered to right to start the inning, Park had a two-run single and Wiley doubled in a run to give the Golden Eagles a 4-1 lead.

Cal State San Marcos scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings and then took advantage of eight walks in a six-run sixth-inning rally that turned the game around. Moran had a run-scoring single and Parks had a two-run single for the only hits in the inning.
Cal State L.A. got a bases-clearing triple from Castro in the eighth and he scored on a groundout by Jesus Campos to make it 10-8, but that was as close as Cal State L.A. would get.

In the nightcap, the Golden Eagles put up four runs in the third inning to take a 4-1 lead, but didn’t score the rest of the way. All four runs scored with two outs on a wild pitch, a run-scoring single by Park and a two-run double by Castro.

Cal State L.A. will resume California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Thursday with the opener of a four-game series against Cal State Dominguez Hills at Reeder Field at 6 p.m.
