WALNUT CREEK – Cal State L.A.’s men’s basketball team placed two players on the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association teams announced by the conference on Tuesday.

Senior guard/forward Chris Fields was named to the All-CCAA first team, while senior guard Dwayne Jones was named to the second team in voting done by the conference coaches.

It is the second All-CCAA honor for Fields, who earned second-team recognition last season despite missing nearly the entire second half of conference play because of injury. Fields was second in the conference this year in scoring with 15.2 points per game and he was also seventh in rebounding with 5.9 rebounds per game. He led the Golden Eagles in points, rebounds and steals and was second in assists.

Fields also had the highest scoring game for the Golden Eagles this season, pouring in 36 points against San Francisco State last month. He scored 20 or more points seven times this season.

It is the first All-CCAA for Jones, who was second in the team this season in scoring with 13.7 points per game. He was eighth in the conference in scoring. Jones also led the team in assists, 3-pointers and was third in steals.

Jones poured in a season-high 24 points on Friday in the Golden Eagles’ regular-season finale against Chico State. He scored 20 or more points in five games.

Humboldt State’s Zac Tiedeman was the CCAA Most Valuable Player, Marquel Hoskins of San Francisco State was the Newcomer of the Year, Davion Berry of Cal State Monterey Bay was the Freshman of the Year and Greg Kamansky of Cal Poly Pomona was the Coach of the Year. Cal Poly Pomona had the most All-Conference selections with four, while Cal State San Bernardino, Cal State Dominguez Hills and Humboldt State had three each.

Cal State L.A. finished in a tie for sixth in the CCAA and qualified for the CCAA Championship Tournament for the second time in three years. The Golden Eagles will face No. 1 seed Cal Poly Pomona this evening in Pomona in a first-round game.
