LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s baseball team came up flat in its first game at Reeder Field this month.

The Golden Eagles committed five errors and produced only two runs while dropping an 8-2 non-conference decision to Cal State San Marcos Friday evening. Cal State L.A. (12-11) had a six-game winning streak snapped.

The Golden Eagles were playing their first home game since they dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Cal State San Bernardino on Feb. 28.

Wally Goodline gave up only three hits and one earned run in five innings for the Golden Eagles, but he left trailing 4-1 and was saddled with the tough-luck loss. Matt Strom was touched for five hits and four runs over three innings and Cliff Quick pitched a scoreless inning.

The Golden Eagles were unable to muster much offense against three Cal State San Marcos pitchers. Chris Skaalen allowed four hits and one run over five innings to get the win. Eric Julienne allowed just three hits and one run over three innings and McClinton Heil pitched a scoreless ninth inning to wrap things up.

Omar Manzanarez had three hits and scored three times to lead a nine-hit Cal State San Marcos attack. Kyle Secciani and Kevin Silvett had two hits and two RBI each.

Jesus Campos had a pair of doubles and drove in a run for the Golden Eagles, while Sam Wiley had a pair of hits and Matt Miraldi had one RBI.

Johnny Omahen gave the Cougars a 1-0 lead in the top of the second with a sacrifice fly, but the Golden Eagles tied it in the bottom of the inning when Mark Sunga was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a double by Campos.

The Cougars made it 2-1 in the third aided by a pair of Cal State L.A. errors and then added two runs in the fifth, again helped by two Golden Eagle errors.

Secciani had a run-scoring triple to highlight a two-run seventh inning for the Cougars and Mike Pena contributed a sacrifice fly and Manzanarez had a run-scoring single to give the Cougars two more runs in the eighth.

Cal State L.A. completed the scoring in the bottom of the eighth when Park scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Miraldi.

Cal State L.A. will return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Cal State San Marcos at Reeder Field beginning at 1 p.m.
