WALNUT CREEK – Cal State L.A.’s Dora Kiss has been named the Penn/California Collegiate Athletic Association Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 8-14, the conference announced on Monday.
Kiss, the No. 1 singles player for the Golden Eagles, went 4-0 in singles matches and 3-1 in doubles contests to help Cal State L.A. to a 4-0 week. The Golden Eagles, who won only three matches all of last season, have improved their record to 4-4 after posting wins last week over Cal State San Bernardino, Western New Mexico, Hawaii-Hilo and Grand Canyon.
Kiss didn’t drop a set while winning her four singles contests. She beat Cal State San Bernardino’s Brittany Choate on Tuesday, 6-1, 6-4, Nikolina Vukadin of Western New Mexico on Thursday, 6-0, 6-0, Christie Pagatpatan of Hawaii-Hilo, 6-3, 7-6 on Friday and Cecilia Vergnet of Grand Canyon on Saturday, 6-3, 6-4.
Kiss teamed with Linda Majzlikova at No. 1 doubles for wins against Cal State San Bernardino (8-0), Western New Mexico (8-2) and Hawaii-Hilo (8-1).
The Golden Eagles’ current four-match winning streak is their longest since March of 2008. Cal State L.A. was just 3-10 last season.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on March 21 with a match at Hawaii-Pacific.
