LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team completed an exceptional week with a fourth consecutive victory.
The Golden Eagles took two of three doubles contests and five of six singles matches to defeat Grand Canyon, 7-2, Saturday at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (4-4) started the season with four losses, but has rebounded to record four wins in the past five days.
Cal State L.A. is now 4-3 against NCAA Division II teams. The Golden Eagles had an earlier loss to Division I Cal State Northridge.
The Golden Eagles took the lead after doubles, picking up two of the three points there.
Jillian Sangria and
Adriana Espinosa defeated Kalia Knopf and Stephanie Griffin, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles, while
Lana Lamesic and
Marine Prevost beat Mandy Prudhomme and Ali Brackey at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.
Dora Kiss won a spirited match at No. 1 singles, earning a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 victory over Grand Canyon’s Cecilia Vergnet. Sangria beat Griffin at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-0, Lamesic defeated Knopf at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-3, Prevost beat Prudhomme at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-3 and Espinosa beat Brackey at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-1.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on March 21 with a match at Hawaii-Pacific. The Golden Eagles will also face BYU-Hawaii, Hawaii-Hilo and Chaminade on the trip.
