Cal State L.A. Athletics

NORTHRIDGE -- A small contingent of Cal State L.A. track and field team members competed Saturday at the Cal State Northridge Invitational.

The highlight of the day was an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark set by freshman Dameion Berry-Smith in the triple jump. Berry-Smith won the event with a season's best mark of 48-3. The provisional qualifying standard was 47-7.

That was the top performance of the day for Cal State L.A., which had a small group competing. Berry-Smith also had a second-place finish in the long jump "B" division with a mark of 22-2.25.

Karee Nordby was second in the women's shot put "B" with a mark of 37-1. Nordby also placed sixth in the discus "B" with a mark of 113-11 and seventh in the javelin "A" with a mark of 121-2.

Cal State L.A. will return to action next weekend at the USC Trojan Invitational.
