LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team has named senior Lana Lamesic as the team’s captain, Head Coach Cari Groce announced this week. The Golden Eagles, after some challenging competition in their fall schedule, will open their regular season on Friday, Feb. 5, with a home match against Fresno Pacific beginning at 2 p.m.

Lamesic is in her third season at Cal State L.A. She held down the No. 2 singles spot last year for the Golden Eagles as a junior. She missed most of her sophomore season because of a wrist injury, but bounced back strongly last season.

Cal State L.A. is ranked 31st in the nation in the NCAA Division II pre-season poll administered by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The Golden Eagles are also ranked fifth in the West Region by the ITA.

Senior newcomer Dora Kiss is ranked 32nd in the nation after her impressive play in the fall. She is ranked seventh in the West Region, while freshman newcomer Jillian Sangria is ranked 15th in the region.

The doubles team of Kiss and junior Linda Majzlikova is ranked 10th in the West Region.

Cal State L.A. will play its first three dual matches of the season at home, beginning with the Feb. 5 contest against Fresno Pacific. The Golden Eagles will open California Collegiate Athletic Association competition against Sonoma State on Saturday, Feb. 13 at noon and continue conference play against Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 1:30 p.m. Home matches are held at the Cal State L.A. Tennis Complex.
