LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s cross country All-American Vivien Wadeck has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Female Cross Country Runner of the Week for the week of Sept. 14-20, the conference announced on Monday.
Wadeck won the weekly conference honors for the first time this season and for the fourth time in her Cal State L.A. cross country career. She won it three times last season.
Wadeck finished eighth out of 217 runners at the NCAA Division I-dominated UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday. Her time in the 5K race was 17:17.4, which was 11 seconds faster than what she ran at the same event a year ago.
She helped the Golden Eagles finish 13th in the race and ahead of CCAA programs Cal Poly Pomona (15th), Cal State San Bernardino (23rd) and Cal State Dominguez Hills (27th). UC Riverside won the event, BYU was second and Azusa Pacific was third.
Wadeck, the defending CCAA individual champion, finished eighth in the country last season for the best Cal State L.A. individual finish since 1994. The Golden Eagles finished 13th in the country, their third consecutive top-15 finish. Cal State L.A. was ranked 15th in the most recent national rankings and fifth in the West Region.
Cal State L.A. will return to action on Oct. 10 at the Vanguard Invitational.
