HOUSTON, TX – Cal State L.A.’s indoor women’s track and field team had a pair of All-American performances Saturday.
Sierra Backus finished fourth in the triple jump and Moriah Jubrey took eighth in the 400 meters in the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships at the Yeoman Field House at the University of Houston. The top-eight performers in each event earn All-America honors.
Backus, who picked up her third All-America award, finished fourth in the triple jump for the second straight year. Her best mark on Saturday was 38-6. Emily Warman, a freshman from Western Washington, won the national championship with a mark of 39-3.
Backus also finished fifth in the 2007 Outdoor National Championships.
Jubrey, a newcomer to Cal State L.A., was eighth on Saturday with a time of 57.61. Pinar Saka of Nebraska-Omaha won the national title in that event with a time of 55.58.
Jubrey, a sophomore, earned junior college All-America honors at Riverside City College last year. She ran her fastest time of the season on Friday while qualifying for the finals with a clocking of 56.90.
