CHICAGO, IL – Cal State L.A.’s women’s indoor track and field team finished second in the two-day Margaret Bradley Invitational that concluded Saturday at the University of Chicago.
Cal State L.A. finished with 114 points to trail only host University of Chicago, which finished with 160. Shianne Smith had a fantastic meet for the Golden Eagles, winning four individual events and then teaming with Tuekeha Huntley, Denina Speights and Moriah Jubrey for a win in the 4x400 relay.
Smith won the pentathlon with 3,446 points that improves her provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Division II championships. Huntley also improved her standing with 3,401 while finishing second.
Smith also won the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.69, the 200 in 25.64 and the long jump with a mark of 5.49 meters.
Liliana Hernandez won the mile with a time of 5:12.85, which was just ahead of second-place finisher Karla Alburez (5:13.35). Huntley won the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters, which was the same height cleared by second-place finisher Speights.
Jubrey was second in the 55 dash in 7.26, while Vivien Wadeck finished second in the 5,000 with a time of 17:35.22.
The Golden Eagles will now wait to see how many will qualify for the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Houston, TX on March 13-14.
