Complete NSCAA All-America Team
KANSAS CITY, KS -- Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team had a record four student-athletes earn All-America honors when the National Soccer Coaches Association of America announced the 2009 NSCAA/Performance Subaru Men's NCAA Division II All-America team on Friday.
Senior defender
Mickey Daly and senior forward
Federico Cino earned first-team All-America honors, while senior midfielders
Aza Gomez and
Miguel Cucue earned third-team honors, the NSCAA announced on Friday.
Cal State L.A. had more players than any other team in the nation earn All-America honors. Several other programs had three selections.
The four All-Americans are a new program record for the Golden Eagles.
The players were selected in voting by NSCAA member caoches.
Cal State L.A. finished the season ranked 12th in the nation after capturing the California Collegiate Athletic Association South Division championship and advancing to the NCAA Division II West Region championship game for the third time in four years.
Earlier this week, all four Golden Eagles earned first-team All-West Region honors.
Daly was a main reason why the Golden Eagle defense was one of the nation's best and allowed only 20 goals in 23 games while compiling an 18-4-1 overall record.
Cino led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 12 goals and eight assists and 32 points. He had a pair of goals in the Golden Eagles' 5-3 NCAA first-round playoff win over Cal State San Bernardino.
Gomez completed an outstanding four-year career for the Golden Eagles. He had a career season in 2009 and was second on the team in scoring with eight goals and two assists for 18 points. He had a three-goal hat trick in the Golden Eagles' win over Cal State San Bernardino.
Cucue scored three goals for Cal State L.A. in 2009 and was a key part of the team's success. He appeared in 43 games during his Cal State L.A. career.
Cal State L.A. recorded 18 wins in 2009, which is the second-highest total in program history and the most since the 1981 squad posted 20 victories and advanced to the NCAA Division II championship game.
