SAN FRANCISCO – Cal State L.A.’s women’s cross country team concluded its season with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Division II West Regional, but No. 1 runner Vivien Wadeck will be moving on to nationals.

Wadeck finished 10th overall and was one of two runners from non-qualifying teams to earn a trip to the NCAA Division II Championships. The nationals will be held on Nov. 21 in Evansville, Ind.

Wadeck recorded a time of 21:34.2 over a 6K course at Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park. San Francisco State hosted the meet. Wadeck, who captured her second straight California Collegiate Athletic Association championship on Oct. 24, earned All-Region honors for the second straight year. The top 15 runners earn All-Region recognition.

Cal State L.A. finished eighth as a team with 245 points. The Golden Eagles see their three-year run of national top-15 finishes come to an end. Cal State L.A. had qualified for the national championships for three straight seasons from 2006-08.

Alaska Anchorage won the region championship with 35 points and dethroned second-place Chico State. The Wildcats finished second with 58 points. Seattle Pacific, led by three-time champion Jessica Pixler, was third with 75 points and Western Washington got the fourth and final qualifying spot by finishing fourth with 121 points.

Wadeck and Humboldt State’s Megan Rolland are the two individuals from the West Region to qualify for nationals. Rolland finished one spot behind Wadeck in 11th with a time of 21:41.5.

Vivien Rico was the second Golden Eagles across the finish line for Cal State L.A., finishing 31st in 22:44.6.
