WALNUT CREEK -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team was well-represented on the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association team announced on Thursday by the conference.
Gabriela Bulawczyk and
Mary Laupepa both earned first-team honors, while Zuzana Cizova was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year. Cizova,
Kaylynne De La Rosa and
Marquis Mora all earned second-team honors.
Cal State L.A. finished third in the CCAA with a 17-5 conference record and advanced to the NCAA Division II West Region semi-finals with a five-set win over Sonoma State on Thursday.
Bulawczyk, a senior outside hitter, earned first-team All-CCAA honors for a second straight season. She led the Golden Eagles with 395 kills and was second in service aces (27) and digs (329) during the regular season.
Laupepa, a sophomore middle blocker, was fifth on the team in kills with 147 and second in blocks (73). She missed the first seven matches of the season and was a key reason why Cal State L.A. went 12-2 in its last 14 regular-season matches. Laupepa led the team in service aces with 34, including nine in a match against Cal Poly Pomona on Nov. 6.
Cizova, a junior outside hitter, was second on the team in kills with 259 and tied for third in service aces. She had 20 kills while leading Cal State L.A. to a big four-set win over Chico State in the regular-season finale.
De La Rosa, a sophomore setter, had 1,042 set assists for the Golden Eagles in the regular season and also contributed 92 kills, 20 service aces and 49 blocks, all outstanding numbers for setters.
Mora, one of the top freshmen in the conference, led the Golden Eagles with 103 blocks during the regular season and also had 217 kills.
The Golden Eagles will continue their run in the NCAA playoffs with a semi-final match against UC San Diego on Friday at 5 p.m. at Cal State San Bernardino.
