Cino, Daly and Gomez all earned first-team honors, while Volk was named to the second team in voting done by the region’s sports information directors.
Sam Charles of Montana State-Billings was named the region’s Player of the Year.
Cal State L.A. finished the regular season ranked seventh in the nation and first in the West Region and advanced to the NCAA West Region championship game for the third time in the past four years. Cal State L.A. hosted NCAA playoffs in men’s and women’s soccer in 2009 for the first time.
The three first-team selections are the most for Cal State L.A. in a single-season.
Cino, a senior forward, completed his second season with the Golden Eagles. He led the team in scoring with 12 goals and eight assists and 32 points. He had a pair of goals for the Golden Eagles’ in their NCAA playoff win over Cal State San Bernardino last Friday.
The 12 goals were the most in a season for a Cal State L.A. player since Morten Marthinsen had 13 in 2005.
Gomez, a senior midfielder, completed an outstanding four-year career for the Golden Eagles. He had a career season in 2009 and was second on the team in scoring with eight goals and two assists and 18 points. He had a three-goal hat trick in the Golden Eagles’ 5-3 playoff win over Cal State San Bernardino last Friday.
Daly, a senior defender, earned All-Region honors for a second straight year. He earned second-team honors last season. He was a main reason why Cal State L.A.’s defense was one of the nation’s best and allowed only 20 goals in 23 games this season.
Volk, a sophomore defender, was a newcomer on the Cal State L.A. squad and he made an immediate impact, starting all 23 matches for the Golden Eagles this season.
Cino, Gomez and Daly will now be put on the Division II All-America ballot.
Cal State L.A. recorded 18 wins in 2009, which is the second-highest total in program history and the most since the 1981 squad posted 20 victories and advanced to the NCAA Division II championship game.
