HAYWARD -- Cal State L.A.'s men's soccer team put the finishing touches on its second California Collegiate Athletic Association South Division title in the last four years with another shutout win Sunday.

The Golden Eagles got goals from Federico Cino and Kristian Gaustad and posted a 2-0 shutout over Cal State East Bay in the regular-season finale. Cal State L.A. (17-2-1, 13-2-1) won its sixth consecutive match and finished the CCAA season with a conference-high 40 points.

The Golden Eagles earned the No. 1 seed for the four-team CCAA Championships, which will begin on Friday at Cal State Stanislaus. Cal State L.A. will face CCAA North Division champion and No. 4 seed Sonoma State in a first-round match set to begin at 7 p.m.

The Golden Eagles, ranked seventh in the nation and first in the NCAA West Region, enjoyed a 25-4 edge in shots. Freshman Jose Martinez, making his first start, recorded two saves to post the shutout.

Gaustad opened the scoring in the 23rd minute when he took a pass from Mauricio Barrett and drilled a shot from about 15 yards out into the right corner of the net. The goal was Gaustad's fifth of the season.

Cino scored his 10th goal of the season in the 71st minute to give the Golden Eagles a 2-0 lead. He sent a free kick around a wall of players and into the net.

The Golden Eagles are making their fourth consecutive trip to the CCAA Championship Tournament and are closing in on another NCAA postseason appearance as well.
