LA JOLLA -- Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team made history in a couple of ways Friday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association showdown at UC San Diego.

The Golden Eagles recorded their first win ever at Triton Soccer Field with an exciting 1-0 victory over UC San Diego. In  the process, Cal State L.A. (14-2-2, 11-2-2 CCAA) completed their first-ever season sweep over the No. 18 Tritons (14-4, 11-4) and put itself in position for a first-ever CCAA South Division title.

The Golden Eagles now have 35 points and have a two-point edge over UC San Diego heading into the final day of conference play on Sunday. Cal State L.A. can win the title with a win or tie at Cal State East Bay on Sunday or with a UC San Diego tie or loss at home to Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Cal State L.A. also set a new program record for wins in a season (14) on Friday and clinched a spot in the four-team CCAA Championship Tournament that begins next week at Cal State Stanislaus. The Golden Eagles will be the No. 1 seed if they win the South.

The Golden Eagles won the game in dramatic fashion when Kastidi Robles continued her late-season scoring surge. Robles broke through the UC San Diego defense after receiving a pass from Ann Marie Tangorra and blasted a shot into the left corner of the net at the 87:13 mark.

It was the fourth goal of the season for Robles and the second dramatic game-winner. She also scored the winner late in the second overtime at Sonoma State on Oct. 11.

Goaltender Jessie Walworth also had a big evening for the Golden Eagles. She made five saves, including a diving stop of an attempt by UC San Diego's Anne Wethe. She also batted down a shot by Shelby Wong in the first half and snagged a rebound attempt by Sarah McTigue.

Cal State L.A. had a 17-14 edge in shots. UC San Diego goalie Kristin Armstrong had a career-high 10 saves Friday. UC San Diego had a 3-1 edge in corner kicks. Liz Franco had a match-high five shots for the Golden Eagles, while Alex Conley, who scored both goals in a 2-1 win over UC San Diego on Oct. 19 in Los Angeles, had four shots.

Cal State L.A. will conclude its regular season with a road match at Cal State East Bay on Sunday. The conference tournament will begin next Friday.
