Kiss, Sangria Bow Out In Quarters In ITA Fall Regionals

POMONA -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team got some more outstanding play from newcomers Dora Kiss and Jillian Sangria on the second day of competition at the 2009 Wilson/ITA West Regional Championship at Cal Poly Pomona.

Kiss and Sangria both advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to seeded players in the matches played at the Kellogg Tennis Complex. Two Cal State L.A. doubles teams were also defeated on Friday.

Kiss opened her day on Friday with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Cal Poly Pomona's Christie Lau. She then faced No. 1 seed Yuan Jia of BYU-Hawaii and fell, 6-3, 6-1. Jia had lost only one game in her two previous matches before facing Kiss.

Sangria knocked off Molly Maguire of Sonoma State, 6-2, 6-3 before falling to No. 3 seed Vanesa Reibstein of Cal State Stanislaus, 6-1, 6-3.

Two players from BYU-Hawaii and two from Cal State Stanislaus reached the semi-finals, which will be contested on Saturday.

The doubles team of Sangria and Joyce Librando fell to the Cal State Stanislaus duo of Katie Eng and Bri McClintock, 8-3, while Kiss and Linda Majzlikova fell to UC San Diego's Katie Mulloy and Roxy Pourmirzaie, 8-3.
