COSTA MESA -- Cal State L.A.'s women's cross country team got another winning performance from returning All-American
Vivien Wadeck and a fifth-place overall finish Saturday at the Vanguard Invitational.
Wadeck, the defending California Collegiate Athletic Association individual champion, covered a 5K course at Fairview Park in Costa Mesa in 17:23. She finished 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Vivien Rico finished 27th in 18:56,
Lorena Banda was 28th in 18:57,
Keri Molt was 51st in 19:41 and
Justina Sadauskaite was 52nd in 19:43 for the Golden Eagles. Cal State L.A. finished in a tie for fifth with host Vanguard with 129 points. A team from USC was first with 47 points, Orange Coast College was second with 74 points, Concordia was third with 75 points and Point Loma was fourth with 128 points.
The race included four NAIA teams ranked in the national Top-25. The Golden Eagles are ranked 20th in the NCAA DIvision II.
Melissa Lopez was 76th in 20:29,
Sierra Olivas was 100th in 22:23 and
Sandy Marmolejo was 106th in 22:34.
Cal State L.A. will return to action next Friday at the Cal State Northridge Invitational. The Golden Eagles will then compete in the CCAA Championships at Humboldt State on Oct. 16.
