Please join us as Cal State L.A. Athletics welcomes back Golden Eagle alumna, tennis legend and 2009 Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Billie Jean King as we host the Billie Jean King and Friends, Presenting The Joe Shapiro Award scholarship event on Saturday, Sept. 25 in the Grand Ballroom of the Langham Huntington Hotel & Spa in Pasadena. This will mark the 13th anniversary of this exciting event, one that has already raised more than $2 million to benefit Cal State L.A. scholarships.
Our special guest this year will be two-time Olympian and the 1960 gold medalist in the decathlon, Rafer Johnson, who will receive the 2010 Joe Shapiro Humanitarian Award for his dedication to helping those with disabilities. He was one of the founding members of the Special Olympics in Southern California and has been active in that organization for more than 40 years. Also in attendance will be a number of special guests, celebrities and dignitaries who will join us in honoring Rafer and welcoming back Billie Jean.
