LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.’s women’s volleyball team made an impressive late-season run in 2009 and added to its lofty credentials as one of the top programs in the country. The Golden Eagles qualified for the NCAA Division II playoffs as the No. 6 seed and recorded playoff wins over No. 3 seed Sonoma State and No. 2 seed UC San Diego before falling in the regional championship match to No. 1 seed and tournament host Cal State San Bernardino.

LOS ANGELES – Randi Smart, who led Cal State L.A. to 23 wins and into the NCAA Division II West Region championship match as the interim coach in 2009, has been named Cal State L.A.’s head women’s volleyball coach, Golden Eagle Director of Athletics Dan Bridges announced on Wednesday. Smart was named the interim coach in February and led a young squad with only two seniors to a 23-9 overall record and to a third-place finish in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.

LEXINGTON, KY – Cal State L.A.’s women’s volleyball star Gabriela Bulawczyk earned her second straight All-Region honor from the American Coaches Volleyball Association on Tuesday. Bulawczyk earned 2009 AVCA All-West Region honorable mention after her second outstanding season with the Golden Eagles.

SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team saw its impressive run through the NCAA playoffs come to an abrupt end Saturday night. Cal State L.A., after beating the No. 3 and No. 2 seeds in the opening two rounds, came up short in the West Region championship match, falling to No. 1 seed and tourney host Cal State San Bernardino, 25-18, 25-18, 25-15.

SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team left little doubt Friday -- the Golden Eagles are headed to the NCAA West Regional championship game for the first time since 2005. The Golden Eagles, ranked 19th in the country, led from start to finish in a 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 win over No. 3 UC San Diego Friday in "The Den" at Cal State San Bernardino. Cal State L.A. (23-8) will play in the championship match on Saturday at 7 p.m.

SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team put its recent experience in five-set matches to good use Thursday in the opening round of the NCAA Division II West Region playoffs. The Golden Eagles rallied from a 2-1 sets deficit and beat Sonoma State, 20-25, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 15-12 Thursday in the "Den" at Cal State San Bernardino. Cal State L.A. (22-8), the No. 6 seed, advances to the regional semi-finals for the fifth straight year.

WALNUT CREEK -- Cal State L.A.'s women's volleyball team was well-represented on the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association team announced on Thursday by the conference. Gabriela Bulawczyk and Mary Laupepa both earned first-team honors, while Zuzana Cizova was named the CCAA Newcomer of the Year. Cizova, Kaylynne De La Rosa and Marquis Mora all earned second-team honors.

SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State L.A.’s women’s volleyball team, the No. 6 seed in the West Region, will face No. 3 seed Sonoma State in a first-round NCAA Division II playoff match Thursday at noon at Cal State San Bernardino. The Golden Eagles have qualified for the NCAA playoffs for the sixth straight year and Thursday's opening match pits teams ranked No. 18 and 19 in the nation.

WALNUT CREEK – Cal State L.A.’s #Mary Laupepa# has been named the Molten/ California Collegiate Athletic Association Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 9-15, the conference announced on Monday. Laupepa hit at a .529 percentage while helping the Golden Eagles post important conference wins over Cal State Stanislaus and Chico State and wrap up an NCAA playoff bid.
