LOS ANGELES – The recent rain has caused some changes in the schedules for Cal State L.A.’s baseball and women’s tennis teams. Cal State L.A.’s baseball team will be hosting Cal State San Bernardino on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Reeder Field, while the tennis team will open its 2010 dual match season on Saturday at noon at the CSULA Tennis Complex against Sonoma State.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team has named senior Lana Lamesic as the team’s captain, Head Coach Cari Groce announced this week. The Golden Eagles, ranked No. 31 in the country and fifth in the West Region, will open their regular season on Friday, Feb. 5, with a home match against Fresno Pacific beginning at 2 p.m.

FULLERTON – Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team competed well in the Cal State Fullerton Intercollegiate Tournament this past weekend. The Golden Eagles were the only NCAA Division II competitors in the field, which was made up of mostly Division-I programs. The highlight of the tourney was the doubles play of Adriana Espinosa and Jillian Sangria, who advanced all the way to the semi-finals of the Flight "B" doubles.

POMONA -- Cal State L.A.'s women's tennis team got some more outstanding play from newcomers Dora Kiss and Jillian Sangria on the second day of competition at the 2009 Wilson/ITA West Regional Championship at Cal Poly Pomona. Kiss and Sangria both advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to seeded players in the matches played at the Kellogg Tennis Complex.

POMONA – Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team had two newcomers advance to the Round of 16 in the 2009 Wilson/ITA West Region Championships Thursday at Cal Poly Pomona. Senior Dora Kiss and freshman Jillian Sangria each advanced through two rounds, while junior Linda Majzlikova and senior Lana Lamesic won first-round matches before losing in the second round. The Golden Eagles also had three doubles teams participating in competition later Thursday.

POMONA – Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team will have seven players competing in the 2009 Wilson/ITA West Region Championship that begins on Thursday at Cal Poly Pomona. The tournament will run through Saturday. The Golden Eagles will have a new No. 1 player, senior Dora Kiss, and a new coach, Cari Groce, who was previously the head coach at Division I schools Texas Tech, Washington State and Tulsa.

LOS ANGELES – Cari Groce, who has experience leading three NCAA Division I programs, has been named the new women’s tennis coach at Cal State L.A., CSULA Director of Athletics Dan Bridges announced on Tuesday. Groce, who was the head coach at Washington State for 12 years and most recently at Texas Tech for five years, has a career record of 208-185 over 18 seasons.

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team battled through a disappointing season filled with tough losses and frustrating injuries. The Golden Eagles, who had made the NCAA playoffs in the previous two seasons, fell short of that goal in 2009 and struggled to a 3-10 overall finish. Cal State L.A. was also 2-8 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action and finished fifth in the conference.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team concluded a disappointing 2009 dual match season with a loss to California Collegiate Athletic Association opponent Cal Poly Pomona. The Golden Eagles managed a win in singles and a win in doubles, but that was it in a 7-2 loss to the Broncos Thursday at the CSULA Tennis Complex. Cal State L.A. (3-10, 2-8 CCAA) lost its sixth straight match.
