LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.’s women’s soccer team enjoyed a season for the ages in 2009, shattering program records, earning a national top-10 ranking for the first time and winning a first-ever California Collegiate Athletic Association championship. All the success netted Chris Chamides the CCAA Coach of the Year award.

SAN ANGELO, TX – Cal State L.A.’s women’s soccer team earned its first-ever national honors when the Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-America Teams were announced. Junior forward Liz Franco, the West Region Player of the Year, earned third-team honors, while senior forward Amanda Matthews received honorable mention. Franco and Matthews become the first players in the program’s history to earn All-America recognition.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s soccer team made more history on Tuesday when it placed four members on the 2009 Daktronics/NCAA Division II West Region first team. Junior forward Liz Franco was named the West Region Player of the Year in voting done by the region’s sports information directors. She was joined on the 13-player first team by teammates Amanda Matthews, Alex Conley and Caroline Hanna.

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team saw its historic season come to a sudden end Sunday in an NCAA Division II West Region second-round game. The Golden Eagles, the California Collegiate Athletic Association champions, fell into a 2-0 hole and were unable to recover in a disappointing 2-1 loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills at Jesse Owens Track.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s men’s and women’s soccer teams will be hosting NCAA Division II playoff action this week after both earned No. 1 seeds in the West Region. The women’s team, which claimed its first-ever conference championship on Sunday, will host a three-team regional that begins on Friday, while the men's team will host CS San Bernardino on Friday at 7 p.m. as part of a four-team regional.

TURLOCK -- Hats off to Cal State L.A.'s women's soccer team. The Golden Eagles won their first California Collegiate Athletic Association championship with a 4-0 win over Cal State Dominguez Hills Sunday at Cal State Stanislaus' Warrior Stadium. Cal State L.A. (17-2-2) got a three-goal hat trick from Liz Franco, who also assisted on the Golden Eagles' fourth goal, scored by Alex Conley.

TURLOCK – Cal State L.A.’s women’s soccer team made a first-half goal from Liz Franco stand up in an opening-round game of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament. Franco’s 10th goal of the season in the 29th minute was the only scoring in the Golden Eagles’ 1-0 win over Chico State Friday in Cal State Stanislaus’ Warrior Stadium. Cal State L.A. will play Cal State Dominguez Hills for the conference championship on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

WALNUT CREEK – Cal State L.A.’s women’s soccer team made its mark on the California Collegiate Athletic Association all-conference team announced on Thursday. Liz Franco, Amanda Matthews, Ann Marie Tangorra and Head Coach Chris Chamides all earned top awards from the conference in voting done by the conference coaches. Cal State L.A. won the CCAA South Division for the first time in the program’s history and earned the No. 1 seed for this week’s conference championship tournament.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s soccer team has recorded a pair of impressive firsts in the program’s history this week. The Golden Eagles moved up to No. 1 in the official NCAA Division II West Region poll for the first time ever. The Golden Eagles also jumped up to ninth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America’s national poll, marking the first time in the program’s history that the women’s soccer team had cracked the national top-10.
