LOS ANGELES – The recent rain has caused some changes in the schedules for Cal State L.A.’s baseball and women’s tennis teams. Cal State L.A.’s baseball team will be hosting Cal State San Bernardino on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Reeder Field. That game was originally scheduled to be a part of the John Scolinos Memorial Tournament at the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy on Saturday, but was washed out.

COMPTON -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team got back on track and posted its first win of the 2010 season Thursday in the John Scolinos Memorial Tournament. Anthony Lopez hurled five shutout innings and Mario Ramirez and Cliff Quick contributed home runs to lead the Golden Eagles to a 10-2 win over Cal State San Bernardino at the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy.

POMONA – Cal State L.A.’s baseball team was unable to hold a lead in its 2010 season opener. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 4-1 lead after five innings, but gave up six unanswered runs and lost to Cal Poly Pomona, 7-4, Monday at Scolinos Field. Cal State L.A. (0-1) collected 10 hits in the contest, but also left 10 runners on base and was unable to score over the final five innings.

LOS ANGELES – Due to the heavy rains in Southern California this week, Cal State L.A.’s baseball program has had to make some changes to its annual Alumni Day. The game, scheduled for this Saturday, Jan. 23, has been cancelled. Cal State L.A. Head Coach Vince Beringhele is inviting Golden Eagle alumni to come out instead on Sunday, Jan. 24, at 1 p.m. for some light batting practice and a home-run hitting contest. Please continue to check the Cal State L.A. athletics website for updates if conditions change.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s baseball team will kick off its 2010 festivities with its annual alumni game, which is set for Saturday, Jan. 23. The Golden Eagles, who have 15 players returning from their 2009 squad, are ranked 34th in the NCAA Division II preseason poll published by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Cal State L.A. had a 32-17 overall record and finished third in the California Collegiate Athletic Association with a 21-11 mark.

LOS ANGELES – While Issac Morales and Derrick Loop are pitching well this summer in the minor leagues, another former Cal State L.A. hurler, Mike Burns, is making a splash with the Milwaukee Brewers. Burns, who earned All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors twice for Cal State L.A. in 1999 and 2000, picked up the first Major League victory of his career last month and is currently holding down a spot in the Milwaukee Brewers’ starting rotation.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s Issac Morales, who finished his collegiate career with more wins than any pitcher in the program’s history, was selected by the Florida Marlins Thursday on Day 3 of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft. Morales was one of six California Collegiate Athletic Association players to be drafted on the third and final day of the draft.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s Travis Tartamella was one of four California Collegiate Athletic Association players chosen on Day 2 of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft. Tartamella was selected in the 19th round by the St. Louis Cardinals. The junior catcher, who earned All-CCAA and All-West Region honors this past season for the Golden Eagles, helped lead Cal State L.A. to a 32-17 overall record.
