LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A. Hall of Fame member Jay Gibbons has made a productive return to Major League Baseball. Gibbons, a three-time All-California Collegiate Athletic Association selection from 1996-98 with Cal State L.A., made his first start in the Majors since 2007 on Tuesday and he made quite an impact. Gibbons went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI while helping the Dodgers beat the Phillies, 15-9, in Philadelphia.

STUTTGART, GERMANY -- Cal State L.A.'s All-American outfielder Sam Wiley has helped his Great Britain squad get off to a 2-2 start at the 2010 European Senior Championships. Wiley went 1-for-3 with one run scored in Great Britain's 5-1 win over Spain on Monday. The victory lifted Great Britain to a 2-2 record after its first four games. Great Britain will face Greece on Tuesday to complete pool play.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s #Matt Miraldi# signed a professional baseball contract with the Gateway Grizzlies in St. Louis on Thursday and made an impressive debut with the independent team later that day. Miraldi picked up two hits, walked once and scored two runs in the Grizzlies’ 8-0 win over Kalamazoo in a Frontier League game. Sam Wiley, meanwhile, signed with another Frontier League team, the Florence Freedom, on Friday.

SALT LAKE CITY -- Former Cal State L.A. shortstop Jesus Campos has been called up to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim's Triple-A team in Salt Lake City. Campos was called up on Saturday to replace injured infielder Nate Sutton. He was in the starting lineup on Sunday at third base in Salt Lake City's 8-7 win over Reno.

LOS ANGELES -- Cal State L.A.’s baseball team battled through a challenging season that was filled with an inordinate amount of injuries and late-inning losses. As a result, the Golden Eagles had their run of winning seasons snapped at four and also missed out on a repeat appearance in the four-team California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s Jesus Campos was one of six California Collegiate Athletic Association players chosen on Day 2 of Major League Baseball’s First-Year Player Draft. Campos was selected in the 24th round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

MARSHALL, MINN – Cal State L.A.’s Sam Wiley was one of 45 players named to the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America Baseball Team. Wiley, who led the Golden Eagles in nearly every offensive category, was named to the third team in voting by the NCAA Division II College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s Mario Ramirez earned first-team honors on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II All-West Region team for the second year in a row, while Sam Wiley earned second-team All-Region honors from two groups. Ramirez was the first-team catcher on the NCBWA All-Region team in 2010 after earning first-team honors last year as an outfielder.

ELLENSBURG, WA – Cal State L.A.’s Sam Wiley was one of 15 players named to the 2010 Daktronics Division II All-West Region Baseball Team on Wednesday. Wiley led the Golden Eagles in nearly every offensive category and was named as the first-team utility player in voting done by the region’s Sports Information Directors. Wiley played first base, catcher and right field for the Golden Eagles in 2010.
