LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s tennis team got some strong play in singles and doubles and posted its first win of the 2010 season. The Golden Eagles took two of the three doubles contests and four of the six singles matches to beat Cal State San Bernardino, 6-3, Tuesday in a California Collegiate Athletic Association competition at the CSULA Tennis Complex.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s Josh Como has been named the California Collegiate Athletic Association Track and Field Male Athlete of the Week for the week of March 1-7, the conference announced on Monday. Como posted an NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark of 53-00.25 in the triple jump while winning the event at the Ben Brown Invitational Saturday at Cal State Fullerton

The Golden Eagles got a go-ahead, two-out RBI single in the seventh inning from Mario Ramirez and clutch relief pitching from Matt Stropoli and Rory Young to record a 6-5 win over the Gators Saturday at Maloney Field.

SAN FRANCISCO -- Cal State L.A.'s baseball team had to settle for mixed results Friday in the opening day of a four-game series with San Francisco State. After escaping with a 5-4 win in the opening game of a California Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader, the Golden Eagles managed only six hits in the nightcap and dropped a 5-1 decision.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s indoor track and field team will be represented in four events at the 2010 NCAA Division II National Indoor Track and Field Championships on March 12-13. Shianne Smith, Jamilah St. Cyr and the 4x400 relay team of Brittany Manuel, Smith, Jennifer Shoate and Moriah Jubrey will compete for Cal State L.A. in the national meet. The championships field was announced on Wednesday by the NCAA.

POMONA -- Cal State L.A.'s men's basketball team saw its season come to an end Tuesday in a first-round California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament game. The No. 8 seed Golden Eagles put up a battle, but lost to No. 1 seed Cal Poly Pomona, 57-45, in Kellogg Gym. Cal State L.A., which is the last team to beat Cal Poly Pomona this season, wound up 14-14.

WALNUT CREEK – Cal State L.A.’s men’s basketball team placed two players on the All-California Collegiate Athletic Association teams announced by the conference on Tuesday. Senior guard/forward Chris Fields was named to the All-CCAA first team, while senior guard Dwayne Jones was named to the second team in voting done by the conference coaches.
