LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s volleyball team found itself in an early hole for the second straight night, only this time the Golden Eagles were unable to recover. The Golden Eagles spotted No. 3 Cal State San Bernardino a 2-0 lead and the Coyotes went on to beat No. 21 Cal State L.A., 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, 25-13, Saturday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association match in the Eagles Nest.

SAN FRANCISCO – Cal State L.A.’s women’s cross country team concluded its season with an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Division II West Regional, but No. 1 runner Vivien Wadeck will be moving on to nationals. Wadeck finished 10th overall and was one of two runners from non-qualifying teams to earn a trip to the NCAA Division II Championships. The nationals will be held on Nov. 21 in Evansville, Ind.

TURLOCK – Cal State L.A.’s men’s soccer team discovered the third time was not the charm Friday night in a California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament semi-final match. The Golden Eagles allowed a first-half goal to Sonoma State and lost to the Seawolves, 1-0, at Warrior Stadium on the campus of Cal State Stanislaus. Cal State L.A. (17-3-1) lost in a semi-final conference match to Sonoma State (14-3-4) for the third straight year.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s volleyball team shook off a slow start and roared back to post a big California Collegiate Athletic Association victory. The Golden Eagles fell behind 2-0, but rallied to beat Cal Poly Pomona, 21-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-16, 15-8, Friday night in the Eagles Nest. Cal State L.A. (19-7, 15-4 CCAA) won for the 10th time in its last 11 matches.

TURLOCK – Cal State L.A.’s women’s soccer team made a first-half goal from Liz Franco stand up in an opening-round game of the California Collegiate Athletic Association Championship Tournament. Franco’s 10th goal of the season in the 29th minute was the only scoring in the Golden Eagles’ 1-0 win over Chico State Friday in Cal State Stanislaus’ Warrior Stadium. Cal State L.A. will play Cal State Dominguez Hills for the conference championship on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.

MALIBU – Cal State L.A.’s women’s basketball team found the going tough against NCAA Division I opponent Pepperdine Friday. The Golden Eagles struggled with turnovers and fouls and fell to Pepperdine, 108-52, in their second exhibition game in as many days against Division I foes. Cal State L.A. lost to UNLV on Thursday in the Eagles Nest, 67-42.

WALNUT CREEK – Cal State L.A.’s women’s soccer team made its mark on the California Collegiate Athletic Association all-conference team announced on Thursday. Liz Franco, Amanda Matthews, Ann Marie Tangorra and Head Coach Chris Chamides all earned top awards from the conference in voting done by the conference coaches. Cal State L.A. won the CCAA South Division for the first time in the program’s history and earned the No. 1 seed for this week’s conference championship tournament.

WALNUT CREEK – Cal State L.A.’s Federico Cino, Aza Gomez and Mickey Daly earned first-team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association honors to highlight a group of six Golden Eagles to pick up All-CCAA recognition, the conference announced Thursday. In addition, Chris Chamides was named the CCAA Coach of the Year for the second time. He was previously honored as the men’s soccer Coach of the Year in 2004.

LOS ANGELES – Cal State L.A.’s women’s basketball team got its three-game exhibition slate underway Thursday night in the Eagles Nest. The Golden Eagles battled with NCAA Division I opponent UNLV before falling to the Rebels, 67-42. Cal State L.A. limited UNLV to 36.8 percent shooting, but was able to make only 29.5 percent of its shots during the exhibition contest.
